Sumba - Hamburg

The Story: Andre Graff, a former balloon pilot from Munster in France was the first time in 2004 in Sumba, and he produced a unique photographic documentation. Many of his photos left behind a fateful impression in the hearts of the initiators of the Association: Fischer / Chandail. The pictures show a group of women who took water for their families from a stinking pond. As in many other places in the world, the daily job, drawing water and bringing, is reserved for women. Especially for those who are quite old or rather young. In this village, this task even enclose a dangerous walk several kilometres just to get this dirty, even dangerous water.
The water source is located precisely: 09 ° 45.099 'South and 119 ° 20,052' east.
Andre Graff built exactly here the first well, which now deliveres fresh and clean water. (It is not possible because of geological reasons to build the wells on the hills themselves.) The old water hole has been expanded until today into a nice fountain with durable materials.
Kamlesh Chandail, Arjun Chandail and Prof. Dr. Jens H. Fischer-Chandail arrived from Hamburg in 2007 in Sumba, to provide the villages with an interactive art project. Now we are all friends. We decided together, to help the villages, where it is needed most. And this is the dignified care with daily fresh water.
